The next step in student mobility

As of April 1st, 2025 Aon Student Insurance continues with new improved products. These new products are developed to become even more inclusive, provide even more equality in benefits and make it easier for you to get the right cover. Our new products are tailored to your situation, better suited to a Full Degree (Bachelor, Master or PhD), an Exchange, an Internship abroad or being Academic Staff abroad.

The insurance products

Our website will continue to provide the right advice to you based on your situation. Our insurance products will be recognizable based on your situation. Students that will start a Full Degree program abroad also get our product Full Degree, students that will be doing an Exchange abroad, will receive our product Exchange, students that will be doing an Internship abroad, will receive our product Intern and Academic Staff that goes abroad will receive our product Academic Staff.

Going forward all our products will contain at least a cover for acute worsening of pre-existing medical conditions that could not be foreseen at the start date of the insurance. For example: a student with asthma will not be covered for the asthma medication (this could have been foreseen before starting the exchange abroad), but will be covered in case of an asthma attack.

In this way, all international students with the same situation/destination, regardless of where they come from (EEA or non-EEA) or what their medical background is, will receive a cover that is providing the same access to insurance benefits. Also for all short term students (Exchange) a cover for acute worsening of their pre-existing conditions will apply. In this way we reduce barriers to a minimum for students with pre-existing medical conditions, being able to be included and take part in international education regardless of having a medical condition.

Full Degree Students that have the Netherlands or Germany as their destination country will be covered for pre-existing conditions, also including foreseen medical expenses. In all cases a condition to conclude the insurance is that you as a student are fit to study (able to participate and complete the study under regular circumstances, regardless of your medical conditions).

European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)

Students that hold a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) during their study abroad will receive a discount of 55% on their premium. You receive the same coverage, but due to having a primary cover via the EHIC, the discount on the premium will be applied. This is already calculated in our website automatically.

Existing policies and extensions

Students that currently have an Aon Student Insurance with a Start+, Complete or Complete+ cover, will remain with their policy, even if the end date is after April 1st, 2025. In other words, the insurance will continue 'as is' till the end date of the insurance. Students that conclude a new insurance on or after April 1st or apply for an extension of a current insurance after April 1st will get the new products.
